The Atlanta Lions Club was one of 70+ exhibitors who helped connect Old Fourth Ward kids, families, and seniors to city and county agencies and nonprofit services. District 2’s Boulevard corridor has the highest concentration of poverty in the southeastern United States. The Year of Boulevard initiative, which Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall and the community launched in 2012, is focused on empowering residents of all socio-economic backgrounds to work together to increase public safety and attract new resources to the community.
Kwanza’s staff are still tallying the final numbers, but it looks like 1,300-1,500 Boulevard corridor residents attended today’s 2015 Year of Boulevard Back-To-School Block Party.
The Atlanta Lions Club shared an exhibit table with community partner, Beacon of Hope Renaissance Learning Center to engage citizens in Lionism, recruit new members and network with other community providers for possible future vision screening events. Last December, 2014 the Atlanta Lions Club vision screened 109 children ages 1-6 years old at Beacon of Hope’s Old Fourth Ward early learning center.
