Atlanta Lions Club Meeting 8/13/2020
The ALC had a great meeting on the 13th and would like to thank all who participated. Our guest speaker was Adam Keith with Operation Freedom Dogs. Other topics discussed at the meeting was the upcoming District 18L Rally and our plans for a fundraiser raffle to be held soon.
Our Guest speaker was Adam Keith the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Operation Freedom Dogs. Adam shared his story of how he came to help veterans by training dogs to help with the symptoms of PTSD. Currently the only solution veterans suffering with PTSD is Medication and this does not help in all cases. Mr. Keith explained that the solution to the problem of veterans Dealing with PTSD is Service Dogs. He explained that the VA has recently finished a 7 year study on the effects a service dog has on PTSD Symptoms and the result were very promising. This study spurned the PAWS Act that has just passed congress and will provide up to 25k dollars per service dog for veterans. Adam went on to discuss how his organization has graduated dogs and placed them with veterans. We were very fortunate to meet with Adam Keith and the ALC plans to help Operation Freedoms Dogs in any way we can in the future.
Next the District 18-L Rally was discussed and members are encouraged to attend on August 15th. The Rally will be held virtually and will be led by Zone Chari Dennis Chapman. The ALC has been fortunate to have Mr. Chapman Join us for meeting in the past and look forward to the Rally. The rally will consist of Officer Traning and a district cabinet meeting.
